The Unseen Battle Over Your Prayers

If you’re like me then you don’t have much patience when it comes t0 God answering your prayers.

I don’t want my prayers answered tomorrow, I want them answered today!

But guess what… it doesn’t work that way.  God does everything on HIS time according to his will, not ours.  Maybe we think we know best, but we don’t.  Our Father in Heaven knows best.

Take a look at this passage in Daniel 10:

“Then he continued, ‘Do not be afraid, Daniel.  Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.  But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days.  Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the King of Persia.'” -Daniel 10:12-13

Notice how the angel was coming to answer Daniel’s prayer, but was held up for 21 days by the ‘prince of the Persian kingdom.’  And then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help him.

Who knows what the angels are going through to answer our prayers.  That’s why we need to trust in God and know that he has heard our prayers.

What I love about Daniel 10:12-13 is that it shows God is working on our prayers.  It’s just that we don’t see the battles that are happening in the spiritual world over our prayers.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” -Ephesians 6:18

Also, look at Genesis 29 & 30.  Rachel wanted a child but she remained childless for some time.

The when see in chapter 30, verse 22:  “Then God remembered Rachel; he listened to her and opened her womb.  She became pregnant and gave birth to a son and said, ‘God has taken away my disgrace.'”

God remembered Rachel.  Not saying that he forgot, but he answered her prayers.  He is just doing it on HIS time according to His will.

I’ve had prayers that took quite some time to answer.  Some I’m still waiting for.  Sure, I want them answered today, but I understand that God will answer them on His time.

So, don’t be discouraged if you feel your prayers aren’t being answered.  They could be answered instantly or could take many years.

Be patient and know there’s an unseen battle going on over your prayers.

Are You Causing Someone To Stumble?

Have you ever used your words that made someone stumble?  Maybe they were negative words.  Maybe your actions caused a friend to fall.

Has this ever happened to you?

“Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food.  All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.” -Romans 14:20

I love what Paul says here… “…it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.”

To me, he’s not just talking about food but everyday life.

A few months ago my sister asked me if I could feed her horse, Dandy, for her just this one time.  Well, one time turned into twice a week.  Then, she would keep asking me if I could feed him for her.

One day I just got fed up with it and told her this is the last time I’ll ever feed him and that she needs to find someone else to do it!

I was sooo mad.

As I was walking to the barn to feed Dandy I thought of the above verse, “…it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.”

I knew my sister was busy with her day job, my nephew, and the business she just started with her husband.  And, for me, I was being selfish.  I work from home and I’m fully capable of feeding her horse, but I just didn’t want to.

At that moment I knew I was causing her to stumble.  She has a lot on her plate, and here I was not wanting to help.

But, after Romans 14:20 came to my mind (God put it there), I sent her a text and told her to never worry about Dandy again because I will make sure he always gets fed.

I didn’t want to be the cause of her stumbling.  Why make someone stumble if you can help them up?

“If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love.  Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died.” -Romans 14:15

Remember, if you’re causing someone to stumble, if someone is distressed because of what you do then you’re no longer acting in love.

Everything You Do, Do It For The Glory Of God

One of the hardest things for me to do is to give Glory to God with everything that I do.  EVERYTHING.

Think about that.

Your work, your family, your friends, your hobbies, who ever your talking to, whatever you’re doing, you should do it all for the Glory of God.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” -Colossians 3:17

As a Christian you represent Jesus.  Not just when you want, but ALL the time.

If someone were to come to your work would they see you complaining and being miserable, or would they see Jesus through you by the work you do?

When you speak to strangers or even your friends, are you using your words that will lift people up or bring them down?  Are you speaking as Jesus is speaking through you, or for yourself?

I’ve noticed positive changes in my life when I start to thank God for everything that I have, for the trials I’m going through, and when I think about God with everything that I do.

It’s not easy, but it’s what God wants.

What changes could you make in your life to glorify God?  Feel free to leave your answer in the comments below.

You Reap What You Sow

How true is that?!

You reap what you sow.

Last Sunday as I was leaving church a line of cars started building in the driveway to get out onto the road.  A couple goes were able to go, then came traffic.  Well, the driveway was a one-way with two lanes, one to get left and the other to go right.

Most people were turning right.  Well, as I was in line to turn right one of the shuttles came by to make a left hand turn.  Well, that stopped all traffic in the driveway.  I was about 5 cars back, and I could see it was all clear to make a right turn, but the car upfront wasn’t budging and I couldn’t tell why.

It was making me angry thinking, “Why isn’t this person going?!  What’s going on up there?!!”  (No I wasn’t yelling this out loud with a shaking fist, haha)

Then, after the shuttle went the cars in the right lane started moving.  Then it hit me.  The person upfront wasn’t going because they couldn’t see if traffic was coming around the shuttle.  Ok, makes sense I thought.

Well, yesterday, the same thing happened.  I was leaving church.  But, this time, the crazy driver upfront who wasn’t moving was, gulp, me.  AHHHH

“A man reaps what he sows.  The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.” -Galatians 6:7-8

I couldn’t believe it.  The cars from the driveway were getting onto the road, but as soon as I got upfront the shuttle came up from my left, and left me blind to the traffic.  I couldn’t do anything but wait.

And, it was at that moment I realized… “A man reaps what he sows.”

I was impatient with the person from last week, and God decided the same thing was going to happen to me.  D’oh!

There’s also another lesson in all this…

Last week, when I was the 5th car, I was able to see all of the traffic from both sides.  I knew the first car could go, but they didn’t know they could go because the shuttle blinded them.

Same with our lives.  God is in control.  He can see ALL things, even when we can’t see around the bend we need to put our trust in Him.

“You should not look down on your brother in the day of his misfortune, nor rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction, nor boast so much in the day of their trouble. You should not march through the gates of my people in the day of their disaster, nor look down on them in their calamity in the day of their disaster, nor seize their wealth in the day of their disaster. You should not wait at the crossroads to cut down their fugitives, nor hand over their survivors in the day of their trouble. The day of the Lord is near for all nations. AS YOU HAVE DONE, IT WILL BE DONE TO YOU; YOUR DEEDS WILL RETURN UPON YOUR OWN HEAD.” -Obadiah 12-15

Words Can Build You Up Or Tear You Down

Words are a powerful tool.

They can either build you up or tear you down.

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” -Ephesians 4:29

I’ll tell ya… I was pretty good at using my words to tear people down.  What I thought was a friendly joke, was a slap in the face for someone else.  Not good.

Now, I’m not going to make up excuses for my words by saying, “I wasn’t thinking before I spoke.”  Yeah, I can tell David!  But, there is and was no excuse for the words that came out of my mouth.  I made a choice and had to suffer the consequences.

“No man can tame the tongue.  It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.” -James 3:8

Look at the above verse from James.  He says ‘no man can tame the tongue.’  James also says ‘the tongue is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.’  Think about it, we’ve all said things we didn’t mean to say or later regret.  I know I sure have.  It’s like it just blurts out and then I’m there scratching my head trying to figure out where it came from.  Ahhh!

And, the worst part is you can’t take back the words once you’ve said them.  You may think you can apologize later, but the damage is done.

Here’s a little trick I know of on how to handle your words before speaking them (I actually just used this yesterday!).

Say you’re mad at someone.  Someone hurt you or spoke ill of you, and you just want to yell at them and tell them how you feel.  Well before you do that write them a letter.

Yep, get out a pen and paper (if you must you can use your computer) and write them a letter expressing your feelings.  Let it all out.  Don’t hold anything back.  Then, read the letter out loud to yourself.

What’s going to happen is you’re going to hear how you sound if you were talking to them.  Do you think if you read that letter to them, or sent them that letter for them to read, you’d get a good response?  NOPE.

But, what will happen is you’ll start to feel better because you just got a huge weight lifted off your shoulders, without the damage it could cause.

Now you’ll be able to ‘think before you speak’ with this person, without damaging the relationship.

Also, before you speak with the person again, I recommend praying to God asking for him to speak through you so you don’t let your tongue create irreversible damage.

“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness.  Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing.” -James 3:9-10

Renewing of Your Mind

I read a devotional yesterday, and the author was talking about how we need to keep God’s word in our minds.

He gave some worldly examples… What’s easier to do in the morning, make your bed or leave it unmade?  Wash and wax your car or leave it dirty?

It’s easier to skip God’s Word than read and apply His Word.

What would happen if you left your car outside in a field somewhere?  It would start to rust away.

Same goes with your mind.  If you forget to maintain your mind with Christ, your life will start to show signs of disorder.

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” -Psalm 119:11

One thing you can do today is start reading your Bible more.  Find time throughout the day and just open it up and start reading.  Maybe you don’t have 30 minutes at a time.  That’s ok.  Even if you can spare 1 minute just to read a few passages, you just might start seeing changes in your life.  🙂

You’re always filling your mind with something.  It’s just… what are you going to fill it with?

I can tell you I choose to fill my mind with God’s Word!  It may get tough at times, but God is with us.

Keep spreading the Word!

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” -Romans 12:2

Submit Yourself To God

Happy New Year!

I can’t believe it’s the year 2016.  Whoa!  Where does the time go?  Sounds like we’re in the future or something.  ha

Anywho, if you haven’t already, start the year off right!

“Submit yourselves, then to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  Come near to God and he will come near to you.” -James 4:7-8

Yes!  Submit yourself to God.  Ask God to make your crooked paths straight.  Come near to God and he will come near to you.  Resist the Devil and he will flee.

As you go through this year, and life, call upon almighty God for strength.  Live His will and you’ll have peace, no matter what trials you go through.

You Don’t Get What You Don’t Ask For

I once heard from a great marketer who said, “You don’t get what you don’t ask for.”

So, what did I do?  I started asking for things, even if I thought there was ZERO chance of getting it.  And, you know what?  A lot of times I got what I asked for.

How does this relate to God?

Well, as Jesus said, “Ask and it will be given to you…” (Matthew 7:7)

Want God’s grace?  Ask Him!

Want Him to forgive you?  All you have to do is ask for forgiveness!

Ask God what His will is for you.  Ask Him to come into your life and make your paths straight.

Ask for guidance!

I’m not saying you’ll always get what you ask for, but you certainly won’t get it if you don’t ask.

Yeah, it’s that simple.

All you have to do is ASK.
